Essential Job Functions:
  1. Vision: The key function of this job is color recognition and is used to distinguish and recognize ink distribution on printed materials. Additionally close vision, distance and color variations, peripheral and depth perception as well as the ability to adjust focus.
  2. Shift will extend beyond a normal scheduled work week and in excess of 8 hours. Must be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule in order to accomplish improvement initiatives of the operations.
  3. Requires the application of process improvement methodologies, training personnel and improve efficiencies.
  4. Apply knowledge of press functions and troubleshoot technical problems related to imaging aspects of press performance as well as that of operational processes.
  5. Ability to interpret documents, data, trends and decipher print problems on finished products and utilize data to affect change towards improved production efficiencies.
  6. Must be able to create and foster a collaborative team oriented work environment in order to achieve results.
  7. Define responsibilities and expectations. Able to motivate others for achieving positive results.
  8. Apply strong interpersonal skills, leadership abilities and technical knowledge of processes and products. Role and Responsibilities:
  • Must be flexible with work schedule to support 24/7 operation.
  • Utilize the concepts that are defined in the Flexographic Image Reproduction Work and Specifications and Tolerance to manage and establish press foundations.
  • Collaborates with Customer Service, Prepress, Production and Quality personnel during all phases of print job qualification and set up process for implementing efforts which will lead to obtaining accurate package structure, applying process controls to run targets and to verify documentation used within the design phase of print orders.
  • Be a technical resource to Customer Service, production and finishing operators.
  • Act as the facilitator for projects and meetings outlining and controlling print job requirements. Verify and apply controls which support technical specification for attaining efficiency in printing the highest quality printed products and customer satisfaction.
  • Define work flow to efficiently produce printed materials.
  • Identify and implement specifications, process controls of variables to ensure printed products are in compliance with customer specifications, WS Packaging ISO9000 Certification criteria and all related quality standards.
  • Introduce process controls of press optimization through statistical analysis to determine and maintain specific operating conditions throughout the Fullerton plant.
  • Develops the scope of optimization testing that will lead to balancing of ink color, print stability, statistical data collection that lead to standardization and efficient printing operations.
  • Conduct studies on press performance, establish bench marks and create standard operating conditions to improve run results.
  • Evaluate printing processes and results, identify improvement opportunities, qualify results, determine improvement requirements; communicate to all applicable stakeholders.
  • Ensure conformance to all print job specifications
  • Develop and conduct training of the FIRST Methodologies, ISO9000 Standards, WS Packaging and customer standards throughout the Fullerton facility. Maintain records of training.
  • Works in collaboration with Production, Maintenance and vendors to manage collaboration requirement of printing presses.
  • Incorporate the trial run concept post-calibration activities throughout as for standardizing the process of evaluating job after calibration activities and prior to running print in production phase.
  • Conduct individual audits to ensure that customer standards, FIRST Methodologies, ISO9001 and WS Packaging standards to ensure adherence to quality and operational protocols.
  • Issue Audit Summary report of findings and enter action requests as needed.
  • Prepare for and respond to audit deficiencies and corrective measurements within assigned time frames.
  • Act as the Document Control Agent for Company to maintain electronic and hard copy quality record files for QMS. This includes, but is not exclusive to, product inspection records, audit records, corrective/preventive action records, new product and spec change forms, and SOP documents and forms.
  • Create work instructions in proper SOP format and give to area manager/supervisor to review.
  • Update training database when performing Document Control activities. Notify Staff Managers/ Supervisors when employee training is required.
  • Update product specification data sheets needing revision in appropriate computer system.
  • effectiveness of corrective action requests (CAPAs) as needed & issue audit report.
  • Consults/assists production personnel in problem solving and troubleshooting of product quality issues.
  • Performs special testing as required by instructions in the factory order, press procedures or manufacturing quality plans.
  • Responds to calls when a decision on the quality of a product is needed.
  • Be the voice of the customer, balanced with the needs of the business.
  • Ensure timely, proper, and accurate closing of NCs.
  • Lead, assists or participates in NCR meeting.
  • Coordinate internal complaint investigations to ensure to ensure prevention and reduction of process errors.
  • Work cooperatively and proactively with QM Manager to address specific quality issues as required.
  • Work with QM Manager to prepare for external audits.
  • Maintains quality documentation and sample file for completed projects; files and purges as needed.
  • Monitors dates on existing standards and requests replacements for standards approaching the specified expiration date.
  • Assists in monthly reporting (internal and external) regarding quality incidents and benchmarks.
  • Must be willing to travel.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
Must have 5-10 years of experience in flexographic print industry and specializing in activities of ink balancing techniques and process improvement efforts; i.e. implementing Flexographic Image Reproduction Specifications and Tolerance methodologies, ISO9000 Standards, to include the performance of audit functions and correction to non-conformance. Some college education, printing industry certification, or degree or certificate in manufacturing disciplines; i.e. Manufacturing (Lean, Six Sigma, 5-S), Industrial or Quality related field is desired.
 
Preferred Skills:
  • Use of Flexographic Image Reproduction Specifications and Tolerances (FIRST), lean practices and methodology, GMP’s and ISO Standards in previous work history.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Team-oriented management style with demonstrated leadership and facilitation skills.
  • Good planning and problem solving skills with proven track record in achieving results through or with other team members.

  • Physical Demands:
    Will work in a manufacturing environment and will be required to wear hearing, foot, and/or other personal protective equipment while performing duties in a manufacturing setting. Stand for long periods of time. May frequently stoop, squat, reach upward/downward and laterally, bend and kneel during the performance of job duties. May handle, feel and reach for items in and around press area, also write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Some walking and lifting and/or move up to 50 lbs. may be required. Vision: key function of this job is color recognition and additionally close vision, distance and color vision to distinguish color variations, peripheral and depth perception as well as the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually medium to loud. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed. Must be able to work overtime as required by workload and customer mandated deadlines.
