Order Technician / Buyer


Position Objective: 
The Buyer is responsible for procurement of raw materials and supplies with the proper cost, quality, quantity, service and timing to support business objectives.

Role and Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates all activities related to procurement of a commodity beginning with intent to purchase through delivery.
  • Analyzes the requirement of the commodity, including preliminary specifications, preferred supplier, and date commodity is needed.
  • Investigates and/or interviews potential suppliers to determine if they meet the specified requirements.
  • Assures the commodity is delivered on schedule at the negotiated price.
  • Maintains control of orders, notices, and documents to assure accurate record retention.
  • Determines the best way to supply products for specific pieces of business – i.e. Kanban, Run & Hold with supplier.
  • Takes inventory in the warehouse and the office.
  • Organizes and maintains the corrugated and box storage areas of the warehouse.
  • Builds and maintains a professional relationship with all customers of WS Packaging Group.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in purchasing in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
Preferred Skills:
  • Strong written & verbal interpersonal and communication skills.  Must be able to read, write, and comprehend instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).  Must be able to effectively present information to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in an organized manner.
  • Ability to learn the production/press capabilities.
  • Must maintain confidentiality in work performed.
  • Strong initiative, problem-solving, negotiating and resourcefulness.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume and distance.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to make sound judgment decisions with integrity.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team, follows directions, and receives constructive criticism.  
  • Able to be a cross-functional employee that can work with multiple teams within the organization to achieve success.
  • Forklift experience a plus.

This position works in an office and manufacturing warehouse environment. Will be required to wear hearing, foot, and/or other personal protective equipment while performing duties in a manufacturing setting.  May, on a continuous basis, sit at desk for a long period of time; intermittently answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Some walking and lifting up to 50 lbs. may be required. 
Vision:  close vision, distance and color vision to distinguish color variations, peripheral and depth perception as well as the ability to adjust focus.  
The noise level in the work environment is usually low in the office, moderate in the warehouse.  Incumbent must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed.  There could be minimal travel required for this position.
