Plate Mounter / Plate Librarian

Position Objective: 
Responsible for the daily maintenance and upkeep of plates and the plate room, ensuring that plates are available and accessible for all areas of production; includes manufacturing and mounting plates onto printing cylinders for upcoming jobs, and maintaining the inventory and catalog of press plates that are used in the print room. This includes pulling and assembling plate jackets for kitting and maintaining the library inventory.  Prioritizes job jackets to meet press room needs.

Role and Responsibilities:
  • Monitors production schedule to pull and file plates in advance. 
  • Alerts scheduling to have orders run together that have similar plates, dies, etc.
  • Files and cleans plates daily.
  • Ensures plate jackets are updated with current item numbers and Vision system numbers.
  • Pulls correct tooling as documented on Work Instructions.
  • Examines cylinders prior to mounting to ensure they are defect free and have good gears and bearings.
  • Ensures the proper cylinder is used (hard case, A-B-C) and cylinders are of the correct tooth size & correct undercut prior to use.
  • Checks plates for defects prior to mounting.  Informs plate making of the defect and requests new plates be made.
  • Mounts correct quantity and number of plates based off listed colors and guidelines for production.
  • Follows Vision press schedule and pulls all orders ahead of production schedule.
  • Checks plates for defects, such as worn plate, missing type, cracks and creases.
  • Completes proper paperwork for standard work and pharmaceutical orders, such as First Article Sign-Off sheet.
  • Makes sure plate jackets are updated with current labels.
  • Prepare plate transfers between plants.
  • Be available to work overtime as needed.
  • Required to work 12 hour shifts; required to work weekends as scheduled on a regular or as-needed basis.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).   Operator with flexo, rotary letterpress, and rotary silkscreen knowledge/experience preferred.
Preferred Skills:
  • Excellent skills are required in reading, writing, spoken communication.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Outlook and have the ability to learn company specialized software programs.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to accurately complete high volumes of work.
  • Able to function successfully in a self-managed environment
  • Comfortable working with and able to learn new computer skills.
  • Excellent multitasking and problem-solving skills

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of the job, employee is regularly required to talk and hear.  The employee frequently is required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, use hands to write or type, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Manufacturing environment requires hearing, foot, and/or other personal protective equipment while performing duties in a manufacturing setting. The noise level in the manufacturing environment is moderate to loud.
