Quality Lead

Provide technical assistance to customers and sales related to administrative/product quality issues in the area of complaint resolution.  This individual will also be actively involved in root cause identification and corrective action implementation and other projects as assigned by the Quality Manager.

Role and Responsibilities:
  • Perform the duties of a Certified Internal Auditor and conduct individual audits following the approved Internal Audit schedule developed to meet ISO9001 requirements. Issue Audit Summary report of findings and enter action requests as needed. Audit all areas of CPI’s QMS except for the following noted areas where a conflict of interest would exist: Clause 4.2.1 – 4.2.4, Clause 6.2.2 (e) only, Clause 7.5.1 for QA Dept. processing area, Clause 8.2.2, and Clause 8.2.4.
  • Act as the Document Control Agent for Company to maintain electronic and hard copy quality record files for QMS. This includes, but is not exclusive to, product inspection records, audit records, corrective/preventive action records, new product and spec change forms, and SOP documents and forms.
  • Create work instructions in proper SOP format and give to area manager/supervisor to review.
  • Perform Quality Assurance Inspector role activities as a back-up to current QA Inspector personnel when personnel is out, needs assistance during peak processing times, or when QA Inspector activities are needed to support the beginning of second shift production. Assist in performing product sorts when required.
  • Perform Roll returns and material consumption activities as needed.
  • Update training database when performing Document Control activities. Notify Staff Managers/ Supervisors when employee training is required. Requirement shall be based on established training matrix by job position(s) affected when an SOP update occurs. Enter completed employee training data into computer system and file hard copies in employee files.
  • Create PPAP documentation, recording measurements on appropriate forms. Operate measuring devices such as rulers, calipers, or micrometers correctly to determine acceptability of parts.
  • Update product specification data sheets needing revision in appropriate computer system.
  • Aid production personnel in performing inspection activities as needed (examples: PID card inspection).
  • Aid Quality Manager as needed in performing root cause analysis activities. Perform audits on effectiveness of corrective action requests (CAPAs) as needed & issue audit report.
  • Consults/assists production personnel in problem solving and troubleshooting of product quality issues.
  • Performs special testing as required by instructions in the factory order, press procedures or manufacturing quality plans.
  • Responds to calls when a decision on the quality of a product is needed.
  • Be the voice of the customer, balanced with the needs of the business.
  • Ensure timely, proper, and accurate closing of NCs.
  • Lead, assists or participates in NCR meeting.
  • Coordinate internal complaint investigations to ensure to ensure prevention and reduction of process errors.
  • Work cooperatively and proactively with QM Manager to address specific quality issues as required.
  • Work with QM Manager to prepare for external audits.
  • Be a technical resource to Customer Service, production and finishing operators.
  • Maintains quality documentation and sample file for completed projects; files and purges as needed.
  • Monitors dates on existing standards and requests replacements for standards approaching the specified expiration date.
  • Assists in monthly reporting (internal and external) regarding quality incidents and benchmarks.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
Must have 4-10 years of experience in auditing (auditing to ISO Standard preferred); experience in performing inspection activities in a production environment is preferred; experience in maintaining document control system is preferred; knowledge of problem solving techniques and use of other Quality Assurance/Quality Control tools is preferred. Some college education or degree is desired.  Certification preferred.

Physical Demands:
Quiet conditions; will work in a manufacturing environment and will be required to wear hearing, foot, and/or other personal protective equipment while performing duties in a manufacturing setting.  May, on a continuous basis, stand for a long period of time and stoop and kneel frequently. May handle, feel and reach for items in and around press area, also write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Some walking and lifting and/or move up to 50 lbs. may be required.  Vision: close vision, distance and color vision to distinguish color variations, peripheral and depth perception as well as the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually medium to loud.  Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed. Must be able to work overtime as required by workload and customer mandated deadlines.
