Shipping/Receiving Manager

Under the direction of the General Manager the Shipping Manager is responsible for coordinating activities between the Production Floor and Shipping areas; including giving direction to material handlers; works closely with Customer service and ensures that all internal and external customers’ needs are met with superior service.

Role and Responsibilities:
  • Direct workload based on the Pick list and place Pick lists in appropriate bins.
  • Check email for any questions which may include Freight, Estimates, POD’s, Deliveries, General CSR questions and provide responses in a timely matter
  • Review “complete” shipment screen in System
  • Review Shipping Performance Report and post metrics daily
  • Determine need for overtime and inform employees if needed
  • Assist with Packing and Shipping as needed to ensure on time delivery, which includes filling in for any vacation as needed
  • Assists in employee training and education pertaining to the Finishing departments duties and quality of work.
  • Participate in implementing process improvement for internal and external customers through data collection, standardized procedures and teamwork
  • Provide performance feedback to employees on an ongoing basis
  • Coordinates and direct Inventories
  • Motivate, coach, and provide training for employees on a daily basis
  • Understand and adhere to the policies and procedures outlined in the employee manual.
  • Understand and support the Corporate Mission Statement, Values, Vision, and Operating Principles (attached).
  • Practices and sustains Lean Manufacturing and 6S procedures.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five to ten (5-10) years related production experience.
  • Worked in Lean environment.
  • Team-oriented management style with demonstrated leadership and facilitation skills.
  • Good planning and problem solving skills with proven track record in achieving results through or with other team members.
  • Capable of communicating and working with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to read and understand manufacturing performance reports.
  • Demonstrated innovation, creativity and decision making abilities.
  • Flexible in relations with others and in the management of continuous change
Preferred Skills:
  • Excellent Computer Skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Physical Demands:
Works in a manufacturing environment and will be required to wear hearing, foot, and/or other personal protective equipment while performing duties in a manufacturing setting.  May, on a continuous basis, stand for a long period of time and stoop and kneel frequently. May handle, feel and reach for items in and around press area, also write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Some walking and lifting and/or move up to 50 lbs. may be required.  Vision: close vision, distance and color vision to distinguish color variations, peripheral and depth perception as well as the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually medium to loud.  Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed. Must be able to work overtime as required by workload and customer mandated deadlines.
