Description
Position Objective:
The Value Stream Manager is in charge of Direct Manufacturing Production Operations from the point of raw material delivery to transition of final product into finished goods and function as a member of the Manufacturing staff.  Achieve manufacturing objectives for quality, productivity and service.
 
Role and Responsibilities:
  • Manage and accept responsibility on a daily basis for all assigned personnel as they perform production-related tasks.
  • Ensure proper equipment maintenance as related to safety, productivity, quality and service by leading the development and implementation of appropriate TPM procedures and documentation to verify conformance.
  • Conduct periodic internal audits to verify conformance to quality policy, procedures and mandates. Take timely and appropriate corrective action to satisfy deviations found in audits.
  • Work closely with assigned quality assurance technicians in areas to ensure that quality products are produced on a consistent basis and coordinate with other functional areas to ensure accomplishment of overall plant objectives.
  • Determine staffing requirements weekly and re-deploy resources during the week as needed to address any shifting manning needs or changes in priorities and scheduling.
  • Understanding labor costs, in relationship to productivity and make the necessary adjustments to maintain goals within the value stream.
  • Using Lean principles, form teams and involve people to improve productivity, decrease lead times, reduce waste and attain customer quality requirements.
  • Include safety considerations in monthly department meetings to raise awareness of people to perform their tasks in a consistently safe manner. Make sure that all safety rules are followed, accompanied by good housekeeping complemented by supervision of Utility people.
  • Recommend and initiate cost reduction programs centered around capital improvements where ROI and pay back criteria are favorable.
  • Develop, implement and improve all shop floor paper and manage individual entries so that data integrity is preserved.
  • P&L responsibility and achieving monthly budget commitments

Requirements

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  • Requires a bachelor's degree and five to seven years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to clearly communicate both verbally and written.
  • Have an aptitude toward technical skills; computer skills; record keeping techniques; quality; and Lean background.
  • Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. 
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, and sit.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to make independent and sound decisions.
  • Must possess sound interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of demand management, capacity analysis and forecasting.
 
Physical Demands:
Works in a manufacturing environment and will be required to wear hearing, foot, and/or other personal protective equipment while performing duties in a manufacturing setting.  May, on a continuous basis, stand for a long period of time and stoop and kneel frequently. May handle, feel and reach for items in and around press area, also write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Some walking and lifting and/or move up to 50 lbs. may be required.  Vision: close vision, distance and color vision to distinguish color variations, peripheral and depth perception as well as the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually medium to loud.  Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed. Must be able to work overtime as required by workload and customer mandated deadlines.
